As the festive lights start sparkling, and families start counting down to the upcoming holidays, South Africa’s most iconic shopping centre, Sandton City, has unveiled its festive season campaign. Titled The Festive City, it’s everything Christmas dreams are made of, featuring the most sought-after brands and more.

For starters, the centre court (outside Checkers) will play host to festive brand immersions for shoppers of all ages, by two beloved brands. LEGO®’s zone will feature a maze filled with ever changing play zones, once-in-a-lifetime building experiences, a chance to also add your brick to the South African flag build, two LEGO® brick pits, a Duplo zone for the small ones and the chance to shop the latest LEGO® collections with promotional offers.

The Little Generosity Shop by Cadbury Dairy Milk will provide you with ways to spread generosity and kindness. Here, you can donate toys to children in need, enjoy a reading corner, get Cadbury’s branded gift wrapping and do exclusive shopping in a generous chocolate world filled with treats.

Santa Claus himself will make his much-anticipated arrival to Sandton City on the 1st of December and will also be stationed in the centre court, where photo opportunities and merchandise extensions will make any heart sing.

Fan favourite brand Chuckles® will stage a Life’s a Ball activation on level 6 outside Woolworths. Visitors to this area will be able to shop the exclusive Chuckles gifting range, and personalise their Chuckles purchases right there, making these gifts even more special.

Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen, John Norris-Rogers & Siv Pillay

The top restaurants in South Africa were announced at the 2022 Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards on Sunday 20 November at GrandWest in Cape Town. The industry was celebrated in a spectacular display of gourmet food, creative drinks and top-notch entertainment, which had over 700 guests, including some of SA’s favourite celebrities, on their feet.

The new star rating system results were announced, with restaurants being awarded either one, two or three stars. To be included on the shortlist, each restaurant had to achieve a minimum rating of 70 points out of 100. This was based on several factors, including the quality of their offering – from the décor, ambience and service to the wine list, ingredients used and quality of the food. Woolworths launches augmented reality beauty experiences

Woolworths is taking its quality in-store shopping experience online with the launch of two new, innovative digital beauty experiences. A first of its kind from a South African based beauty retailer, the introduction of Woolworths’ virtual beauty offerings will see the retailer deliver an unmatched online customer experience, that will not only connect customers virtually to the store, but also offer an exciting, unique and differentiated shopping experience.

COVID-19 has accelerated the growth in online shopping, as customers have shifted to doing their shopping from the comfort and safety of their homes. Through the introduction of these new interactive digital platforms, Woolworths now offers customers the engagement and personalised service they want from Woolies, anytime, anywhere.

The new digital beauty experiences, Virtual Try On and Virtual Consultations, are designed to help consumers reinvent their beauty shopping experience at home and gain more confidence before making a purchase. Virtual Try On gives customers the opportunity to try on hundreds of shades of lipsticks, eye shadows, and mascaras. The feature creates realistic applications of these products through augmented reality that can be tested on any skin tone and allows customers to assess textures, colours and looks.

Based on this initial rollout, Woolworths will then look to extend the Virtual Try On offering into its stores, providing interactive screens for customers to trial beauty products.

Soft Glam Evening Make-Up Look

I used to be a TV Producer and I would accompany celebrity guests whom I had booked for our show, to hair and make-up. The irony is that I never got a “face beat” myself, until today. I usually wear minimal everyday make-up, but one can create “red carpet” looks with one’s own make-up and brushes. My niece, @nurul’ayncassiem @_foxybeauty is the Make-Up Artist (MUA) who done my “soft glam evening” look in this post. She used items from my own make-up drawers such as @essence_cosmetics @maccosmetics @maybelline and @woolworths_sa.

A lot of talent and skill is needed to become a Make-Up Artist, as you are literally transforming someone’s appearance from drab to fab! Should you wish to book Nurul-Ayn Cassiem, please contact her via Hello.foxybeauty@gmail.com or follow her on Instagram @_Foxybeauty.

Take a look at my transformation in this vertical video or check it out on my IG TV channel here.

School choir hits high note with R100 000 Woolworths win

Pharrell pic copy

Mzansi is abuzz with the news that Pharrell Williams will be performing live on stage on the 21st of September at the Grand West Arena in Cape Town and then on the 24th of September at The Dome in Johannesburg. Tickets are available from Big Concerts.

The best news about this concert is that young members of a school singing group from Germiston are excitedly preparing for the biggest highlight of their musical careers – performing on stage with Pharrell Williams, American singer-songwriter, record producer, fashion designer and philanthropist.

Adding to their good fortune, the super-talented singing group from Colin Mann Primary, winner of the MySchool Sing With Us Competition, has won a cash prize of R100,000. These funds will be used to renovate the school hall, which was built over 55 years ago and is badly in need of a makeover.

The MySchool Sing With Us competition is part of Woolworths strategic collaboration with the Grammy Award-winning musician. Williams personally selected the winners after local judges Jon Savage, Katlego Maboe and Theo Crous had whittled over 200 entries – from primary and high schools nation-wide – down to 10 finalists.

Remember Movember for Men’s Health

MG866-Made-in-Movember-Campaign-Photos-2014-Media-Images-Portrait-9-LowRes-RGB-Logo

It’s that time of the year again, when men grow moustaches and most of the time, that is about all that happens. Most of the people I’ve asked don’t really know what Movember is all about and the aim of growing that mo.

On the official Movember website, it states that “Movember is about bringing back the moustache (Mo), having fun and doing good to change the face of men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Mo Bros take action by changing their appearance through the growth of a new moustache for the 30 days of Movember, and in doing so become walking, talking billboards for men’s health. Mo Sistas sign up and commit to supporting the men in their lives while helping to promote men’s health at home, in the workplace and within their community.”

Woolworths Stationery is Tops (and Knock Knock Comes a Close Second)

Now that the festive season has come to an end, the BACK TO SCHOOL buying madness has started. I’ve noticed that Woolworths now has a wonderful range of stationery. I first saw this in the V & A Waterfront (Cape Town) branch a while back, and the range is now available at the Sandton City (Johannesburg) branch.

Below are some photos of their stationery. I particularly like the velvet wrapped pencils.
