AI Empowered Summit: Transforming Business and Society

AI is everywhere, and whether you’re trying to get ahead of it or just make sense of it, the noise is real. What if there was one place to cut through the hype? One summit where you could explore how AI is transforming your business, your career, and your life?

Artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept, it’s already reshaping the way we work, hire, trade, treat illness, learn, and live. Whether you’re ready or not, AI is in your inbox, your sales pipeline, your investment strategy, your doctor’s office, your child’s classroom, and embedded in the data trails we leave behind every day.

Consider this: nearly 80% of hospitals now use AI to enhance patient care and streamline operations (Docus.ai – AI Healthcare Statistics, 2024). And according to McKinsey, generative AI could add up to US$4.4 trillion (R80 trillion) annually to the global economy. Yet as this powerful technology accelerates progress, it also raises urgent questions, about inequality, data privacy, misinformation, and the rapid disruption of entire industries.

Enter AI Empowered, a bold new summit inspired by EO Cape Town, designed to move beyond the buzzwords and into what’s actually happening now, and what’s coming by 2030.

Held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre CTICC on 7–8 August 2025, this two-day event features global and local thought leaders from companies like Google, Salesforce, MIT Centre for Collective Intelligence, Woolworths, Discovery, Amazon Web Services, Pepkor and more.

The Fix: A Dystopian Thriller Premiering This Halloween

You may not know this about me, but I started my career in the South African Film & TV industry back, in the early 2000’s. I was a Production Manager on various international commercials that were shot in Cape Town. Hence, whenever I get news about local shows and movies, or anything related to the local film and TV industry, I get really excited. The Fix, which was filmed in my hometown of Cape Town, looks so entertaining, and I am looking forward to its release.

The Fix, premieres on 31 October 2024 on Showmax, as its Halloween highlight.

Set in a dystopian future with toxic air, The Fix follows a model who takes a new designer drug at a party and suffers a shocking transformation. Pursued by forces with competing interests in the drug’s effects, Ella discovers that her mutations could save the human race.

Grace van Dien (Chrissy in Stranger Things S4) stars as Ella, opposite Daniel Sharman (Fear The Walking Dead), SAFTA nominee Keenan Arrison (Binnelanders), Clancy Brown (John Wick 4, The Penguin), and Nicole Fortuin (Alles Malan).

New Movie: “Girl You Know It’s True” – The Milli Vanilli Story

The highly anticipated biographical film drama, “Girl, You Know It’s True”, promises to captivate audiences with its re-telling of the meteoric rise and fall of Milli Vanilli, one of the world’s biggest pop superstars of the late ’80s and early ’90s.

This powerful narrative featuring pivotal scenes filmed in Cape Town, South Africa, brings to light the infamous scandal that rocked the music industry, portraying the complexities of fame and deception through the compelling performances of Tijan Njie (Rob Pilatus) and Elan Ben Ali (Fab Morvan). The scenic beauty and vibrant atmosphere of Cape Town provide a stunning backdrop, adding a unique visual element to the film.

The film hits the big screen in South Africa on Friday, 21 June 2024.

This Season’s Wedding Trends

I recently celebrated a milestone birthday and done all the planning myself.

I wanted it to be the wedding I never had, which made me realise how difficult it can be to plan a wedding!

With that in mind, let’s talk about some wedding trends for 2024 and beyond.

Every couple’s wedding is a day that they will always remember. And with memory making often being a sensory experience, it is important to get the sights, sounds and smells on your special day planned ahead of time so they are just right.

To do this, brides and grooms will begin thinking of colours for the theme, food and drink flavours for the meals, cakes and beverages, their favourite family members and friends, locations that fit their budget and settings such as the sea, forest, veld, or other beautiful events venues.

That said, wedding trends for each year come about because of a mixture of the tastes and preferences of couples, the popularity of certain aesthetics, foods and flowers during that season, wedding planners, and, of course, a healthy dose of interference from family members.

As the Southern Hemisphere looks towards autumn and winter, couples will be planning weddings suited for the colder months, which may mean that weddings are more affordable because of lower demand in comparison to spring and summer.

Ramenhead Opens in Cape Town

Ramen lovers in Cape Town can now eat handmade noodles and tip back bowlfuls of the finest, most authentic broth this side of Japan as Ramenhead, led by chefs Peter Tempelhoff and Ashley Moss, the duo behind award-winning Japanese-fusion restaurant FYN, is now open.

Downstairs from its elegant older sibling at Speakers Corner in the city centre, Ramenhead might be considered FYN’s cool little brother. Thanks to designer Tristan du Plessis’ Studio A, who were responsible for FYN’s celebrated interiors, Ramenhead is vibey, casual and playful, with indoor and outdoor tables, bar seating, an open ‘finishing’ kitchen where patrons can watch each bowl assembled to perfection and a noodle lab complete with white-coated production chefs manning the African continent’s only Yamamoto Noodle Machine.
