This past week, I had the privilege of attending a media trip for the launch of National Geographic’s 4 part series called “Secrets of the Elephants.” We were hosted by the team from Disney+ and National Geographic at the Ivory Tree Game Lodge in the Pilanesberg in the North West Province, South Africa. More about this incredible trip will follow in later posts, including the game drives we experienced, where we saw magnificent, close up elephant sightings.
For now, here’s what you need to know about the broadcast of this truly amazing series.
With today being Earth Day, it was apt for National Geographic to premiere the next instalment of the award-winning Secrets Of natural history franchise. On Saturday 22 April 2023, the four-part “Secrets Of The Elephants” premiered on Disney+ as well as across Africa on National Geographic Wild (DStv 182, StarSat 221).
Disney+ announced that “’Til Death Do Us Part: Kourtney & Travis,” an inside look at the wedding of the year, will premiere exclusively on Disney+ in South Africa on Thursday, 13 April 2023.

Disney+ released the key art and trailer for the upcoming original limited series “Tiny Beautiful Things” starring Kathryn Hahn and produced by ABC Signature and Hello Sunshine. All eight episodes of the series will be available on Friday, 7 April exclusively on Disney+ in South Africa.
Based on the best-selling collection by Cheryl Strayed, “Tiny Beautiful Things” follows Clare (Kathryn Hahn), a floundering writer who becomes a revered advice columnist while her own life is falling apart.
When we first meet Clare, her marriage to her husband Danny is barely limping along; her teenage daughter, Rae, is pushing her away; and her once-promising writing career is non-existent. The first of its kind, this authentic African children’s programme aims to encourage viewers to engage in conservation of Africa’s vast biodiversity and natural resources. There are more than 3 000 species of snakes on the planet and they’re found everywhere except in Antarctica, Iceland, Ireland, Greenland and New Zealand. Of those, an estimated 500 species call Africa home. This March on National Geographic Wild (DStv 182, Starsat 221), Sundays are dedicated to showcasing these elusive creatures from 11:45 right through to 20:30 (CAT) every week, featuring intriguing and sometimes exhilarating snakey stories from across the world.
While snakes are feared in many societies, they help maintain a healthy ecosystem and are both predator and prey. Approximately 600 snake species are venomous, and only about 200 – seven percent – are able to kill or significantly wound a human. A new three-part series, titled Legends of Venom that will premiere as part of Snake Month, on Sunday 5, 12 and 19 March at 18:00, sheds light on various snakes: how they live, why we can’t see them, what they do to feed and breed, and how they deal with living near humans.

Tapfuma Makina, one of South Africa’s favourite news and sports anchors, has been announced as the new Ultimate Braai Master (UBM) host for Season 8 (S8).
Rhodes University scholar, Tapfuma Makina’s plans to continue on and study medicine after completing his BSc in Biochemistry and Microbiology changed direction after becoming a presenter on campus radio revealed a natural talent for storytelling.
Now, after almost two decades in radio and television, as well as hosting and presenting premieres and awards across sports, enterprise and entertainment, broadcasting is in his professional DNA.
His distinctive voice, familiar to many from HeartFM, Top Billing, eNCA and beyond, has captured many SA broadcasting highlights in recent years.
