Tyla – Saturday, 18 January 2025

Grammy-winning South African superstar Tyla’s December tour of her home country proved to be the hottest show at Time Square this month, that she grabbed the chance to perform again as soon as Saturday, 18 January 2025.

Tyla was thrilled with the response from fellow South Africans and said: Everything that’s happening has surpassed anything I could have dreamt of. African music is going global, and I’m so blessed to be one of the artists pushing the culture. I’ve been working on my sound for two years now, and I’m so ready for the world to hear it.”

Tyla is best known for her mega-hit Water, which won her the inaugural Best African Music Performance award at the Grammys, and has lit up charts all around the work, including in the important US market, where it reached #7 on the Billboard US Hot 100, and #1 on the Billboard Afrobeats Chart, Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart, Hot R&B Songs Chart and Adult R&B Airplay Charts. Water is the first solo song in history to spend an entire year at #1 on the Billboard US Afrobeats song charts for 52 weeks.

NME calls Tyla, “South Africa’s brightest new star.” Rolling Stone has christened her “The perfect Amapiano ambassador.” Pitchfork’s review of her album states: “The South African singer’s star-making debut is a lithe, contemporary take on pop-R&B that pulses with the log-drum heartbeat of Amapiano.”

Pick n Pay Clothing and Sari For Change Collaboration

My sister-in-law, Rayana Edwards, is the Founder and CEO of Sari For Change, a foundation that is dedicated to empowering unemployed women and promoting sustainability by upcycling gently worn saris into stunning, new and unique dresses. I own 4 unique recycled saris that have been made into wrap dresses by Sari for Change and I always get compliments whenever I wear them.

Hence, I was so excited to hear that Pick n Pay Clothing has partnered with the Sari for Change Foundation and together they have unveiled a limited and exclusive range of versatile wrap dresses which can be worn in three unique ways. The dresses are available in a kaleidoscope of beautiful colours, ensuring there’s something to complement every style preference.

Each dress is one-of-a-kind and embodies a story of renewal and uniqueness, as it is crafted from a single donated sari carrying its individual heritage. With only 200 dresses available, these exclusive pieces went on sale this week, at four Pick n Pay Clothing stores: Cavendish, Canal Walk, Sandton City and Gateway. Through the partnership, customers can buy one of these exclusive dresses for R369,99, which usually retails for over R1,000.

“Survive The Raft” now on TLC Africa

TLC has announced Survive the Raft, an exhilarating new series that pushes the boundaries of reality television, blending survival epic with a captivating social experiment. Based on a 1973 social experiment, the nine-episode series challenges the notion of whether strangers from diverse walks of life can unite for a common purpose.

Hosted by United States Army Green Beret, NFL football player, and actor Nate Boyer, Survive the Raft takes nine original contestants on a daring journey aboard the Acali II, testing their ability to collaborate and overcome personal differences. Set against the stunning backdrop of Panama’s Pearl Islands, the contestants face a 21-day adventure that will determine if personal interests can be set aside in pursuit of a shared fortune.

With each successful mission, the team accumulates funds in a communal cash pot to be equally divided among those who make it to the end. Participants are tasked with physical and intellectual challenges designed to disrupt and divide the group, creating a dynamic and intense experience. At the conclusion of each episode, the crew faces the choice to continue as a united group or swap out one member for a new participant.
