Introducing GRYND

SA’s iconic youth radio station Y, the plug to all things young, fresh and on trend, is set to shake up Youth Month with the launch of its exciting new platform called GRYND.

As an innovative outlet for play and exploration, GRYND, is a conference created to help young people face the current economic challenges head on, by enabling the conversation of multiple income streams and advising how to creatively upscale ‘side hustles’ through various digital platforms.

With a series of high-impact masterclasses and panel discussions, the June 24th gathering at Atlas Studios promises to be the ultimate ‘meetup’ experience for young people to both share and acquire knowledge from each other and to spark meaningful conversations around entrepreneurship in a digital age through the lens of successful and creative young professionals, culture narrators and social media leaders.

Aligners or Braces – Who Wins In The Quest For Straight Teeth?

Dr Sheryl SmithiesCourtesy of Claire Photography

I’ve always had skew teeth and I have wanted straight teeth since I was a child. But due to finances back then, my single mother could not afford it. Fast forward to today and braces are still expensive. And how does one decide between what type of braces to choose or should you do braces or aligners? Thankfully, adult braces are no longer something to be embarrassed about and are quite common-place nowadays, even in the corporate space.

Everyone wants beautiful straight teeth that can flash a million Rand smile but deciding how to go about getting one is enough to cause a toothache. Most South Africans have plenty of options between braces or aligners, but sometimes having too much choice isn’t a good thing.

The revered dental genius shares some important information that people should consider before making that all important final decision.

HOT 102.7FM to Honour Legacy of Mark Pilgrim at ‘Pilgrimage’ Party

I worked with the late Mark Pilgrim during my film and TV industry years. He was our presenter on “Power of 10” and I also produced a live corporate TV show for a large bank, where Mark was the presenter. I will always remember his professionalism as well as his warm, happy and friendly demeanour. He was quick with a joke and being the technology fundi that he was, he was always ready to help if we were challenged with technical difficulties. He is sorely missed on the airwaves and in our hearts.

HOT 102.7FM will pay tribute to this renowned broadcaster, Mark Pilgrim, and honour his legacy by hosting the ‘Pilgrimage’ Party at The Sound Room in Kyalami on Saturday the 10th of June 2023.

The event aims to celebrate the life of one of HOT 102.7FM’s most respected and loved presenters and provide listeners with the opportunity to pay their respects to the man many knew simply as ‘Baldy’, while raising money for one of Pilgrim’s favourite charities – the Reach for a Dream Foundation.

Pilgrim died in March this year at the age of 53 after a battle with cancer, but left his mark on the radio industry – in the hearts and minds of both its members and listeners. It was therefore no surprise that tickets to the Pilgrimage Party sold out in less than 48 hours.

HOT 102.7FM’s Hot Cares Throws Weight Behind 67 Blankets Campaign

True to its vision of ‘making a meaningful difference to the lives of those around us’, HOT 102.7FM’s Hot Cares once again threw its weight behind the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day campaign recently.

This time, stitch by stitch, with a few considerable extras thrown in!

Those extras amounted to over R1-million in airtime dedicated to 67 Blankets in the lead-up to the Johannesburg leg of the initiative’s ‘Local Blankets is Lekka’ campaign, for which HOT 102.7FM was named the media partner.

Hot Cares also dedicated R67 000 of wool, hooks and needles to the knitting of blankets for those less fortunate this winter – the central theme behind the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative.
