Beefcakes Illovo Review

IMG_4683

I was recently invited to review a performance at Beefcakes in Illovo, Johannesburg. Now for those who may not know what Beefcakes is all about, it is a dinner and drag queen show, with loads of fun, dancing and singing all “mishmashed” together. The venue is also very popular for Bachelorette / Hens Night Parties, and when I say popular, I mean that there were not 1, 2 or 3 Hens Night Parties, but a whopping 9 of them, on the night that I attended.

Soweto Camp Festival

Soweto Camp Fest copyThis year’s Soweto Camp Festival is just about a month away. The event has grown in quality and entertainment since its inception in 2010. It’s hosted at Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers this Easter weekend (3 to 6 April 2015) and it’s a fun setting of music, fashion, hip hop and Soweto heritage. The festival is a vehicle for young local entrepreneurs to expose their businesses to a large, vibrant market and has a lot of whole new fun activities including three stages, so campers will be spoiled for choice in terms of music – eg. dance hall, hip hop and house music.

Free Uber with VW UP! and Celebrity Drivers

I recently had my first Uber experience… and it was effortless. I downloaded the Uber app a while back, but only used the service on Valentine’s Day, when I attended a Glamour magazine event (more about this in a later post).

It really is as easy as pie, just select which Uber car service you’d like – either Uber Van (for larger groups of people), Uber Black (if you want a stylish ride in say, a Mercedes Benz) and Uber X (a ride in say, a Toyota Corolla). Select your pick up location, get a fare estimate (if you’d like) and then click on “Request UberX”. You will be notified on the app when your car will collect you via the nifty estimated time of arrival info, which is usually within 5 to 10 minutes, depending on how many cars are in your vicinity. When you sign up for the app, you also load your debit or credit card details, so at the end of your journey, your card automatically gets debited, so no cash changes hands, making it safer than a usual metered taxi. Our driver was friendly and polite and I rated him 5 stars at the end of the journey.

TUTANKHAMUN – His Tomb and His Treasures Exhibition

Mask-Logo

I was recently invited to the “Tutankhamun – His Tomb and His Treasures” exhibition, which is currently on at the newly re-vamped Silverstar Casino, in Muldersdrift, Mogale City (the old Krugersdorp). I was beyond excited to see this exhibition, which has already been seen by over five million people worldwide! I was blown away by the exquisite multimedia displays and the amazing information told over the hand-held audio guides.
