Comrades Marathon and what to carry with you as a runner

If you have any runner friends or live in South Africa, you will have seen runners or supporters of runners counting down to the ultimate human race, the 96th Comrades Marathon, taking place in just a few days on Sunday, 11 June 2023. This year, the race starts in Pietermaritzburg and ends in Durban. With 20,000 entries, one can only imagine the hustle and bustle leading up to the big event.

On the flip side, if you’re a runner, you’re just about to reach the end of your training programme and do the last-minute administrative preparations. GOOD LUCK!

NeoVita Chewable Vitamins – Review

As the year draws to a close and the new year beckons, taking stock of one’s health becomes important, especially as one gets older. I’ve already made a list of the specialists I need to see in 2022, but for day-to-day health, vitamins can be a part of one’s arsenal of defense for increased wellness, alongside exercise and eating well, of course.

A few weeks ago, the team from NeoVita vitamins reached out to me to review four bottles from their new range.

As someone who already takes about 4 pills a day for other health issues, taking more tablets is not what I am looking for, so I was glad to hear that NeoVita are actually flavoured, chewable vitamins.

I was sent the RADIANT SKIN, PROBI-TUM PROBIOTIC, LUSCIOUS HAIR and DAILY WOMEN’S MULTI-VITAMIN bottles from the new NeoVita range.

Maybelline New York wants to see your face on billboards

Maybelline New York, the world’s #1 colour cosmetics brand*, is at it again!

In 2019, Maybelline broke the Guinness World Record for the most foundation shades matched in 8 hours, right here in Mzansi, and in 2020 they hosted the biggest exclusive virtual makeup master class in South Africa. **

This year they are at it again with their Maybelline Fit Us As We Are South Africa campaign which launched in August 2021.

“Maybelline continuously pushes the boundaries with its innovative products, packaging, formulas and advertising. We are now extending this innovative spirit to our consumers where they have the opportunity to be part of something big” says Marketa Havlik-Liebenberg, General Manager L’Oréal Consumer Products Division.

At Maybelline, we value engagement with our consumers and this campaign has gifted us the opportunity to make our consumers part of the Maybelline New York family by seeing their face on nationwide building wraps and billboards”.

There are also 500 prizes worth R500 each up for grabs to everyone who enters the competition.

Divaz Spa & Salon Review and Giveaway

It’s not everyday at that a new, independent (not part of a franchise) spa and salon opens up, so I was keen to try out Divaz Spa & Salon, when I was invited to review it.

Situated in Langhams Lifestyle Estate in Fourways, Johannesburg, the spa is a “hop, skip and a jump” away from Montecasino. The fact that it is not in a mall helps, because one just has to park in the ample space parking lot and you are right at the entrance of the salon.

Entrance to Divaz Spa & Salon

I was welcomed by Fatima Omar, the Spa Owner and Belinda Aslett, the Spa Manager.

Belinda Aslett (Spa Manager) on the left and Fatima Omar (Spa Owner) on the right.

I was impressed by the size of the spa and salon. Even though there are no pools, saunas and steam rooms, the uniqueness lies in the fact that it is divided into two sections: one for kids and one for adults. The idea is that you can book your kids for a mini spa pampering and activities in the Kids Spa while you relax and rejuvenate in the Adults only section. The sections are completely separate as well. Fatima and her team can arrange kiddie birthday parties, pyjamas parties, bridal showers, baby showers etc. and can accommodate up to 40 adults or children in the large space. Have a look at the photos below to get an idea of the space available.

Women’s Health Live Festival

October was the start of my return to gym! The long time wasted gym membership debit orders that go off on the 1st of each month, into the gym abyss, has come to an end! Let me back track a little … towards the end of 2015, I needed an operation which, after 3 weeks out of hospital, led to a blood clot, which led to a pulmonary embolism in my lungs, which almost killed me. It took about 2 years to feel like my usual self, although my left leg and foot will never be the same again. Hence, I did not feel healthy enough to venture into a gym. Thank the powers that be, that now I can at least walk on a treadmill for 30 minutes at a brisk level 5! Slowly but surely, I am getting there, literally one step at a time.

Since I am finally on a path to fitness, I am delighted to tell you that on the 10th and 11th of November 2018, Women’s Health (WH) magazine are launching the first ever Women’s Health Live Festival – a weekend of wellness.

It will be held at The Wanderers Sports Club in Johannesburg. Think of it as a Coachella of Wellness – three stages (entitled Trends, Fitness and Inspiration) supported by amazing speakers, fascinating panel conversations and interviews led by the WH editors chatting to cover stars, celebrities, fit family, social influencers and experts who will be sharing stories, experiences, expertise and knowledge.

Medi-Sculpt Aesthetics Day with Dr Anushka Reddy

In an era of Instagram and now IGTV, where everyone has the opportunity to have their own personal “channel” to broadcast whatever they want, living your best life (thanks for the payoff line Oprah!) also means having to look your best. And sometimes that means having “work done” but you don’t need to “go under the knife” for many treatments these days.

A Night at the Palace – The Palace of the Lost City – Hotel Review

My first experience of the Sun City resort was back in 1989. I was 15 years old, it was the first time I had ever gone anywhere on holiday and it my first time on a plane. I had the opportunity to see the resort many times since then, but I’ve never stayed at The Palace of the Lost City (the most expensive hotel within the Sun City Resort) until last month, when I was invited to enjoy #ANightAtThePalace.

Studio MoMa Beauty Salon Review

It’s not everyday that an independent nail bar / beauty salon opens up, especially when it opens in a location that is not a mall or shopping centre. But this is the case with the newly opened luxury beauty salon called Studio MoMa. It is situated in the BDO Building in Parktown, Johannesburg. I was treated to a manicure and a chance to see what else the nail bar, soon to be full salon, had up its sleeve.

adidas launches UltraBoost X

cover-pic

For the past year, I’ve taken up sports walking (I’m still getting to the running part). This was after an awful 2016, which involved multiple stints in hospital following a blood clot which went to my lungs, becoming a pulmonary embolism. I now have to wear a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) sock daily on my left leg, for the rest of my life!

Anyway, my doctor says that walking is a good way to circulate blood to my legs, hence the daily walking, where I wear my adidas running shoes.

Recently, adidas Running introduced the latest version of its iconic UltraBOOST shoe at the home of adidas Runners, Runbase in Johannesburg.
