This year’s Soweto Camp Festival is just about a month away. The event has grown in quality and entertainment since its inception in 2010. It’s hosted at Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers this Easter weekend (3 to 6 April 2015) and it’s a fun setting of music, fashion, hip hop and Soweto heritage. The festival is a vehicle for young local entrepreneurs to expose their businesses to a large, vibrant market and has a lot of whole new fun activities including three stages, so campers will be spoiled for choice in terms of music – eg. dance hall, hip hop and house music.
Ntombi Phakathi, a fashion designer and business woman ,who is the producer of the fashion show that will take place during the course of the festival, said the vision behind the inclusion of the fashion show on the camp is to give designers experience in showcasing their designs in a runway setting using professional models, make-up artists and photographers.
On Easter Sunday, it’s a family day where families can enjoy fun experiences by doing obstacle courses together, do a cycle tour around Soweto and skate parks for the kids while the parents can enjoy live performances from Pan-African bands. For those that are into partying like rock stars, with no kids around, you can look forward to the tents up (turn-up) party that will take place on Saturday and enjoy a variety of music, have some drinks and party up a storm.
Thato Mothopeng, the project CEO of the festival, said, “The purpose of the event is to introduce the culture of camping in Soweto in a unique way that is filled with lots of entertainment. The camp has been growing over the years due to the high public support and this year we are taking out the big guns to make it one of the biggest events in Soweto and attract campers from all over South Africa, of all races.”
Entrepreneurs can take advantage of the event to introduce their business to the masses and generate revenue, by purchasing stalls to reach the exact market that they want to attract. The festival will provide a lot of business opportunities for those who want to reach a unique type of audience, who will be celebrating their Easter weekend camping.
