Big Names, Bigger Stories and One Man Behind It All…

Having launched his writing career with multi-award-winning Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan has continued to produce multiple gritty, realistic TV series which have developed a cult following – and you can find them all in one place: on M-Net.

Season 2 of 1923 premieres on M-Net on 15 May at 9pm, with a cruel winter bringing new challenges to Dutton Ranch. Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) still has his eyes on the ranch, with designs on turning Montana into a playground for the elite. Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara (Helen Mirren) must buckle down and wait for Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) to arrive and help them repel the latest attack. Meanwhile, Spencer’s new bride Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) sets off on her own harrowing trans-Atlantic journey to find him and reclaim their love.

Coming to M-Net from 9 June at 9pm for 10 episodes is Sheridan’s Landman, set within the world of oilfields in West Texas where roughnecks and wildcat billionaires are fuelling a boom so big it’s reshaping the climate, the economy and the geopolitics of the region.

The series is written by Sheridan and Christian Wallace, inspired by the podcast Boomtown which Wallace hosted and based on his own experience working in the modern-day, fortune-seeking world of oil rigs. The all-star cast is led by Billy Bob Thornton as abrasive lead Tommy Norris, with Demi Moore as his wife Cami; Jon Hamm as M-Tex oil company owner Monty Miller and Ali Larter as Tommy’s ex-wife Angela.

Thornton told Collider that Sheridan approached him by saying “I’m writing a show for you. It’s called Landman”. He told me what it was about and I said, ‘Wow that’s interesting, we’ve not seen that world,” Thornton said. “I think that was one of the greatest things about being able to play this part that sometimes I’m funny because that’s the way people are,” he said. Larter praised Sheridan’s writing in an interview with Nerd Reactor, saying that the showrunner encapsulates the totality of his characters. “He writes you in the darkness of the night when you’re in bed when you have your fears and your anxieties,” she said.

“The name on everybody’s lips is going to be?” Leading local producer and promoter, Showtime Management is proud to announce the killer CHICAGO cast, featuring principal performers Kiruna-Lind Devar (Evita, MAMMA MIA!, Phantom of the Opera World Tour) as chorus girl turned murderess, Roxie Hart;   Samantha Peo (The Adams Family, Strictly Come Dancing, CHICAGO world Tour 2018 & 2019) reprises the iconic role of Velma Kelly, the famous Vaudeville performer and fellow murderess;  both jailbirds are under the watchful eye of the tough but savvy Matron Mama Morton, played by Tankiso Mamabolo (Nwabisa Plaatjie’s ‘Ziyana’,  Don’t Believe a Word I Say).  The role of the slick, charismatic yet devious lawyer Billy Flynn is reprised by Jonathan Roxmouth (Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Grease) who played this character in the New Zealand leg during the 2018/2019 CHICAGO World Tour. The role of Roxie’s simple, loving husband Amos Hart is played by Dean de Klerk (Kinky Boots, Rent, The Sound of Music) and M.E. Marvey is the upbeat reporter, Mary Sunshine. 

Returning ensemble members from CHICAGO’s 2018/2019 season are Lesego van Niekerk, Jenna Robinson Child, Alexandra Girard, Ferdinand W Gernandt, Michael Fullard, Dirk Joubert and Hugo Madeleyn. New faces include CHICAGO ensemble features Angelica Hattingh, Ashley Scott, Bronwyn Craddock, Leah Mari, Nicolette Fernandes, Johan Dippenaar, Jonathan Raath, Kent Jeycocke and Nkosinathi Mazwai.

Top Winners of the 12th Annual Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards

South Africa’s biggest comedy night lit up The Lyric Theatre last night, as the country’s top comedic talent gathered for the 12th Annual Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards. Presented in partnership with Savanna Premium Cider, Mrs. Ball’s, One-eyed Jack, and Comedy Central, this year’s show proved that when it comes to delivering world class humour, Comics Do It Best.

Hosted by power duo Nina Hastie and Carvin H Goldstone, the show blended sharp wit, candid roasts, and heartfelt moments. From Nina’s cheeky wardrobe commentary to Carvin’s suit reveal, the evening kicked off with charm, chemistry, and just the right amount of chaos.

Show highlights included a bold parody musical performance of “Cherry Eyi’ One” by Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards winner, Vafa Naraghi and friends, turning a classic R&B love triangle into an ode to Mrs. Ball’s Chutney. Yum.

KG Mokgadi transformed the news into a comedy set that included jabs at SA politics, and refugee jokes that had the audience rolling — reminding everyone that “comics do news best.”

Mashabela Galane proved he really does it best, presenting the Joe Mafela Award after a five-minute set that reminded the audience why he’s a national treasure.
