I was recently invited to review a performance at Beefcakes in Illovo, Johannesburg. Now for those who may not know what Beefcakes is all about, it is a dinner and drag queen show, with loads of fun, dancing and singing all “mishmashed” together. The venue is also very popular for Bachelorette / Hens Night Parties, and when I say popular, I mean that there were not 1, 2 or 3 Hens Night Parties, but a whopping 9 of them, on the night that I attended.

As the name indicates, this series is about people I have met via friends, acquaintances, social media, traditional media and people that I have met on my journey of life thus far. This year’s Soweto Camp Festival is just about a month away. The event has grown in quality and entertainment since its inception in 2010. It’s hosted at Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers this Easter weekend (3 to 6 April 2015) and it’s a fun setting of music, fashion, hip hop and Soweto heritage. The festival is a vehicle for young local entrepreneurs to expose their businesses to a large, vibrant market and has a lot of whole new fun activities including three stages, so campers will be spoiled for choice in terms of music – eg. dance hall, hip hop and house music.
I was recently invited to the “Tutankhamun – His Tomb and His Treasures” exhibition, which is currently on at the newly re-vamped Silverstar Casino, in Muldersdrift, Mogale City (the old Krugersdorp). I was beyond excited to see this exhibition, which has already been seen by over five million people worldwide! I was blown away by the exquisite multimedia displays and the amazing information told over the hand-held audio guides.
Last week, I attended the launch of SABC1’s new reality show called Holiday Swap KZN, which took place at the Balalaika Hotel in the heart of Sandton. Now, what makes this reality show different from the plethora of reality shows currently on SA television? Well, first off, this is what is called an Advertising Funded Programme (AFP) which means that the entire show is sponsored by Tourism KwaZulu-Natal and the Thebe Tourism Group. One of the aims of the show, is to make a holiday affordable for anyone, while simultaneously promoting the treasures that can be found in the Zulu Kingdom. This is achieved by introducing what is called the Thebe Travel card, which allows you to use a pre-paid or travel now-pay later credit plan.
