About 4 years ago, I attended the South African Music Awards (SAMAS) and saw first hand the massive and highly sought after goodie “bag” that the artists received. I use the term “bag” loosely as they actually received a suitcase of items. A major cell network was the sponsor that year, and the artists received a big yellow suitcase to put all the high end goodies into.
Well, this year’s SAMAs take place on Sunday, 19 April 2015, and the event has come of age, as this year it celebrates its “21st (XX1) birthday.”
Hip Hop Pantsula, HHP (aka Jabba, aka Jabulani Tsambo) will be taking to the stage as the official host of the XXI South African Music Awards, and the celebrity goodie bags are sure to be almost as sought after as the SAMA trophies themselves. This year, a lucky few will be taking home a king’s ransom of swish designer gear and luxury lifestyle products.
These exclusive goodie bags will be handed out to the onstage presenters and live performers at the awards, taking place at Sun City on Sunday, 19 April 2015, an extravagant thank you gesture with a combined value of almost R2-million.
The goodie bags are crammed with highly desirable items by leading local and international brands. One of the more unusual gifts overflowing from these seemingly bottomless goodie bags is a complimentary Twisp e-cigarette, complete with accessories – helping Mzansi’s jetsetters to kick the habit and keep their vocal chords in ship-shape form.
Once again, Ray-Ban is coming to the party with a pair of stylish sunglasses in each bag, complemented by a classy Converse watch.
Plus, Miglio Designer Jewellery is supplying a set of exquisite Swarovski crystal earrings for the women and a bracelet for the men, with John Craig chipping in a handsome wallet.
Presenters and performers will be stepping out in style with a selection of trendy new wardrobe additions; funky socks courtesy of Toe Porn, hoodies from Le Coq Sportif and T-shirts from Cipo & Baxx, with Pamela Mann tucking some fashionable leggings in to the bags for good measure.
In keeping with the music theme of the awards, Rocka is pitching in sets of earphones as well as terrific caps.
And all those fortunate enough to snag a goodie bag will be immaculately groomed for the foreseeable future, thanks to H2O intense strengthening hair treatments and Comfidern scalp oil from Mizani, Mia Rose perfume and Body Essence tissue oil courtesy of Avroy Shlain, Candi & Co hair styling vouchers and Moroccan Oil gift sets, and Iman make-up products.
Soho will be on-site at the XXI Annual South African Music Awards to ease the tension ahead of the show with revitalising neck and shoulder massages and nail treatments, and Nimue sunscreen, lipcare and aftershave products will also be popped into the bags.
All that pampering revs up the appetite, so complimentary sweets will be provided by Sweet & Soda, McNabs will refuel the celebs with delicious natural energy products, and complimentary energy drinks will be on tap from Tap Out Energy, not forgetting the lunch bags provided by SABC1.
With such generous gifts, the presenters and performers we’ll see on our TV screens on the night of the awards will sparkle as much as the stars they have come to honour and celebrate.
