Married…But Not To Each Other (New Comedy Show)

Tumi Morake and Ndumiso Lindi

Marriage is much like a road trip with its ups and downs (and potholes along the way) and Ndumiso Lindi and Tumi Morake are no strangers to the concept!  Back by popular demand, Ndumiso and Tumi are hitting the road again with their hilarious stand-up comedy show, Married…But Not To Each Other.  It’s not a show just about marriage, it’s about the world that these marriages have to survive in.

The comedy duo will be opening the 2019 season on the 24th of May at the Soweto Theatre, 1st of June at the Flamingo Casino in Kimberley and the 8th of June at PACOFS in Bloemfontein – with additional dates to follow.  The show has already seen successful runs in Pretoria, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Mafikeng, Botswana, Port Elizabeth, Krugersdorp, Durban, Secunda and Nelspruit.

John Vlismas in “The End”

John Vlismas has poked fun at most of the dark horses in our collective mental stable. He has touched racism on its studio, wrapped his tongue around the human brain, and even goosed God as they passed each other in the passage. 2018 was a tough year for John Vlismas, as he lost one of his favourite human beings on Earth. Loss is a theme most of us don’t see as one to write a new hour of comedy about – but John isn’t most of us.

“The End” is by far his most personal, raw, dark and deeply funny show. He will take you into the psychology of death, illustrate the lengths we will go to, to pretend it won’t happen and finally take you to the site of his beloved Dad’s last breath. You may think John Vlismas is a mad man, but he proves in this show that he is determined to go right into the darkness of the human condition and find humour deep inside – where nothing is supposed to be funny.

“I’ve always said that the best comedy is horror’s neighbour. Safe comedy is offensive to me – like alcohol free beer. The ultimate horror is our own death, mostly because we have grandiose ideas of self as a species. If there is a heaven, why are funerals possibly sad? Because deep down, we all know that it’s The End.”

Tickets are available from the Box Office at Montecasino and Computicket.

Tickets range from R130 – R180.

The show runs from 24th April – 02nd June 2019, Wednesday – Saturday at 20h00, Saturday Matinee at 16:00 and Sunday Matinee at 15:00.

Aunty Merle The Musical is coming to Johannesburg

Everyone who knows me, knows that I LOVE Marc Lottering’s brand of comedy. You can read about his previous shows that I have written about here and here. From the time he was an up-and-coming young comedian, when I lived in Cape Town back in the day, we have supported his shows, and he never fails to deliver in tickling one’s funny bones! If you are also a loyal fan, you will know that Marc started out doing shows with various characters, and Aunty Merle from Belgravia Road in Athlone (which is just up the road from where I actually grew up, on the Cape Flats) was one such delightuful and colourful character.

Lottering at The Lyric Theatre

Marc Lottering has always been one of my all time favourtite comedians. He hits the nail on the head with each performance I have ever attended, and I’ve always made sure that, come hell or high water, I make it to his shows when he is in town. So I was “over the moon” to hear that Lottering at the Lyric will take place on Sunday, the 8th of July at The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City at 3pm.
