Let the Battle of the Braais Begin: Ultimate Braai Master Joins BBC Lifestyle’s Local Line-up

BBC Studios is thrilled to announce that Ultimate Braai Master, the sizzling outdoor cooking reality show, will soon be heating up screens on BBC Lifestyle (DStv Channel 174).

 

Fans of the braai culture can look forward to the fiery, action-packed Season 5 of the acclaimed show, on BBC Lifestyle from Monday, 30 September 2024, airing weeknights at 19:00.  This exciting series brings the beloved South African tradition of braai to life, mixed in with a bit of competition, travel, and, of course, mouth-watering food.

 

For the first time ever, Ultimate Braai Master will be featured on BBC Studios channel portfolio, marking a proud addition to BBC Lifestyle’s growing local content lineup, which includes other fan favourites such as Come Dine with Me: South Africa and Listing Cape Town.

New Host for Ultimate Braai Master (Season 8)

Tapfuma Makina, one of South Africa’s favourite news and sports anchors, has been announced as the new Ultimate Braai Master (UBM) host for Season 8 (S8).

Rhodes University scholar, Tapfuma Makina’s plans to continue on and study medicine after completing his BSc in Biochemistry and Microbiology changed direction after becoming a presenter on campus radio revealed a natural talent for storytelling.

Now, after almost two decades in radio and television, as well as hosting and presenting premieres and awards across sports, enterprise and entertainment, broadcasting is in his professional DNA.

His distinctive voice, familiar to many from HeartFM, Top Billing, eNCA and beyond, has captured many SA broadcasting highlights in recent years.

The Trace Group and Okuhle Media Merge to form Trace Studios

The Cape Town based audio-visual production company, Okuhle Media (acquired by Trace Group in 2020), announced the rebranding of their recent merger. With the on-going combined offering of services, the newly rebranded Trace Studios officially took effect on the 1st of October 2021.
 
The initial strategy was put in place several months ago to invest in development, IP creation, and talent, and it is already paying off. New shows that already have some notable ratings successes include:
 

  • Signal High – The teen drama series that earlier this year, performed consistently at +49% slot average.
  • Wild Orphan Rescue – A wildlife series produced for Fremantle and SABC, directed by award winning Benjamin G. Hewett, doubled the broadcasters’ primetime average for audience (+140%) and for share (+164%).
