Global beauty icon, award-winning actress and celebrated humanitarian Nomzamo Mbatha has been officially named the first-ever South African ambassador for Creme of Nature, the iconic American-born haircare brand with over 65 years of legacy. Known for its dedication to textured hair and roots in celebrating African beauty, Creme of Nature has now launched in South Africa with its landmark
campaign, Rooted in Radiance.

Creme of Nature’s expansion into the South African market marks a powerful new chapter for the
beloved brand. It is now available at Clicks, Dis-Chem, TakeAlot and Amazon and will launch
in Checkers in July 2025. With a deep respect for the heritage and self-expression of textured
hair, the Rooted in Radiance campaign is more than a tagline; it’s a movement. At its core lies a
bold truth: hair is more than just strands; it is a legacy, an identity, and a radiant symbol of

Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation and Cotton On Invest R6,4 million in Youth-Led Mental Health Initiatives in South Africa

Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation and Cotton On have announced their R6,4 million donation towards 6 South African mental health organisations. This forms part of $3,000,000 USD funding of 65 youth-centered organizations across ten countries through the Kindness in Community Fund, among the largest funding efforts to provide direct support for youth mental health across the world.

From nominations to the initial review to selecting the shortlist, all the way to the final selection, young people in each region were engaged at each step, ensuring their input and perspectives were central to the decision-making process and reflecting their genuine needs and priorities in mental health.

The Kindness in Community Fund grantees span a wide range of focus areas, including direct mental health service providers, arts and culture, youth leadership and development, education, sports and recreation, and more. By offering up to $150,000 USD per organization, the fund enables services that respond to the top themes young people hoped to address in their regions, including culturally competent services, LGBTQ+ rights and advocacy, gender-based violence support, de-stigmatizing mental health, and migrant and refugee community care. The Kindness in Community Fund offers a comprehensive approach that connects young people with a wide range of free, accessible resources and opportunities to support themselves and their peers.

Trees For Schools On Mandela Day

This year marks ten years since the passing of former president Nelson Mandela, and one retailer plans to plant trees to honour the iconic statesman’s visionary life. Through a campaign dubbed “It’s in your hands, let’s plant our schools green,” the Cotton On Group aims to plant trees in schools supported by the Cotton On Foundation in South Africa. Symbolizing the visionary leader’s lasting contribution to South African society, the intention is to benefit these areas for many years to come.

Through its chain of stores that include Cotton On, Factorie and Typo, shoppers are encouraged to support the initiative by purchasing Cotton On Foundation products such as tote bags, breath mints, wipes and sanitizers that are available both online and at the till points in these stores.

The full proceeds of the sale of these items, from 3 to 23 July 2023, will be channelled to planting trees at the schools that the Cotton On Foundation supports in KwaZulu-Natal, namely Ethekwini Primary and Dr JL Dube High School, which it is currently rebuilding. Shoppers are also welcome to donate to the project.

holidayswap-kzn-logo

Last week, I attended the launch of SABC1’s new reality show called Holiday Swap KZN, which took place at the Balalaika Hotel in the heart of Sandton. Now, what makes this reality show different from the plethora of reality shows currently on SA television? Well, first off, this is what is called an Advertising Funded Programme (AFP) which means that the entire show is sponsored by Tourism KwaZulu-Natal and the Thebe Tourism Group. One of the aims of the show, is to make a holiday affordable for anyone, while simultaneously promoting the treasures that can be found in the Zulu Kingdom.  This is achieved by introducing what is called the Thebe Travel card, which allows you to use a pre-paid or travel now-pay later credit plan.
