ESPN Brings Super Bowl LX Live To Africa

This February, ESPN, the home of American sports, will broadcast the much-anticipated NFL Super Bowl LX live across the continent. Viewers can catch the action live on Monday, 9 February at 01:00 CAT on both ESPN and ESPN2 or on Disney+ in South Africa. This year’s clash will see the New England Patriots face the Seattle Seahawks in a battle for NFL glory and the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The Patriots and Seahawks, both with a rich history in the Super Bowl, will bring star talent and high stakes to the field. Fans can expect dynamic plays, tactical match-ups and high-stakes moments as quarterbacks, receivers and defensive standouts face off under the brightest lights in American sport. The game promises a contest of skill, strategy and determination as each team aims to leave its mark on NFL history.

ESPN Africa will be available on Disney+ from 2 October 2025 in South Africa

Disney+ has announced that, from 02 October 2025, the ESPN Africa linear channels will be available to South African customers at no extra cost. Fans will have access to the two 24-hour linear ESPN channels that showcase the very best live and studio sports programming from the US and around the world, spanning major leagues and iconic competitions. 

  

On ESPN, a world of sport awaits Disney+ customers with the National Rugby League in Australia (Aussie Rules) and Japan’s Rugby League, plus top European football action including the Scottish Professional Football League, English Football League, Dutch Eredivisie, German Football Association Cup and Turkey’s SüperLig, along with the Saudi Pro League.

  

ESPN 2 brings the biggest American sports, showcasing the NBA (National Basketball Association), NFL (National Football League), MLB (Major League Baseball) and NHL (National Hockey League), along with women’s and college competitions such as the NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League), NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) and ESPN College Football. 

  

Both ESPN channels also broadcast studio shows capturing the latest news and analysis from across American sport and football including “ESPN FC”, “First Take”, “The Pat McAfee” Show” and “SportsCenter”. Critically acclaimed and celebrated documentaries and original programming are also available, including ESPN’s award-winning library of 30 for 30 films.

ESPN Africa Set for Epic European Football Season

Football fans across Africa have plenty to look forward to as the 2024/25 European football season is almost underway. ESPN Africa will once again be broadcasting the Belgian Jupiler Pro LeagueEnglish Football LeagueEredivisie, the German DFB-Pokal Cup, the National Women’s Soccer League andthe Scottish Professional Football League. Plus, the Turkish Süper Lig has been added to its programming, promising audiences across the continent an enthralling experience with the most exciting football moments from Europe. 

The Süper Lig is seeking to establish itself as one of the top divisions in Europe and is one that has always piqued the interest of punters. The stakes will be high at every level, this year, as 20 of Turkey’s best clubs battle it out starting in August 2024 and running until May 2025.

ESPN Africa Sports Fest

Last week, my family and I attended the ESPN Africa Sports Fest, where we got to see first-hand what’s in store for sports fans across the continent and participated in themed sporting activities.

ESPN Africa is set to warm up the mid-year Winter viewing with a thrilling line-up of non-stop action from American leagues and brand new sports documentaries this season.

Guests at the ESPN Sports Fest included media, influencers, affiliates, clients and families, who enjoyed an NBA Basketball activation, together with photo opportunities with the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy, an American football shoot the hoop activation, cricket fun, a Koodoo gaming station and soccer ball tricks with a local player. Former professional soccer player Janine Van Wyk, who played in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the US, that ESPN broadcast, appeared at the event and shared her excitement that the league is now available for local audiences.
