Rick Ross in South Africa

South Africa’s premier lifestyle music festival, BLOCK PARTY, is bringing US rapper Rick Ross to South Africa, as part of its December two cities tour. The events hosted in partnership with MTV Base (DStv channel 322) will see Rick Ross first headline a Durban festival in partnership with GagasiFM at the Kings Park Stadium Outer Fields on Saturday, 21 December.  The following day, the “Gold Roses” hit maker will headline the East London, Buffalo Park Stadium on Sunday, 22 December.

Launched four years ago in Johannesburg with a simple idea of providing a world-class platform to celebrate local and international artists, the original Block Party has since become the most sought after ticket in the music scene. In 2015, 2016 and 2017, the events were headlined by Black Coffee and now, the Maybach Music boss, Rick Ross, will headline the Block Party.

Ross is renowned for his first global single, “Hustlin’,” which became a smash hit, due to the hypnotic line, “every day I’m hustling,” repeated throughout, which led the single to be certified gold. His music has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart on numerous releases gaining him positive “unexpectedly fantastic” reviews from The New York Times. His latest album Port of Miami 2, features 15 new songs that include hits such as “Gold Roses” featuring Drake, “Big Tyme” featuring Swizz Beatz and “Act a Fool” with Wale.

Port of Miami 2 started me on this journey,” Ross wrote on Instagram. “It’s only right that I bring it back to where it all started. For my day ones to the new ones, this album is for you.”

The Grammy-nominated rapper will bring his hypnotic performances to Durban on Saturday, 21 December and East London on Sunday, 22 December where the Rick Ross Block Party will feature over 20 local artists across house, gqom, amapiano and hip hop genres of music.
