I recently attended the launch of the latest Magnum pop up store in Nelson Mandela Square, and all I can say is “Please may I have some more?”
The last Magnum pop up store took Johannesburg by storm, so this one should be no different. It opened on the 12th of March, and for 8 weeks only, you have the chance to design you own Magnum ice cream.
Basically you select your “base” Magnum ice cream, then choose a selection of toppings, get it dipped in chocolate of your choice, more drizzles of chocolate and for R44.95, you have your own “curated” Magnum!
Celebrities, media and VIP guests were all present for the opening of the Magnum Pleasure Store with the likes of Jeannie D, Jonathan Boynton-Lee, Maps Maponyane and Pearl Modiadie each having a chance to design a custom Magnum with luxury ice cream, pure Magnum chocolate dip, and a range of delectable and decadent toppings.
You can create a personalised version of your favourite Magnum flavour – Classic, Mint, Almond, White Almond and Death By Chocolate – with a new limited-edition range of toppings. Made by well-known pastry chef Danielle Postma of Moemas Patisserie, the toppings include ingredients like crumbed chocolate cupcake, mint shortcake, chocolate brownie and frosted rose petals, crushed almond praline and ginger biscotti.
But wait, there’s more …
Magnum and Gert-Johan Coetzee collaborated to create the M Collection – a range of designer gowns and luxury fashion accessories, including handbags, sarongs, scarves, iPad covers, t-shirts, dress shirts, socks and wallets, each inspired by one of five Magnum ice cream flavours.
“Magnum is for pleasure seekers. Our ice creams are an inspiration to seize pleasure when it comes your way, to take that moment to truly indulge,” said Justine Liebenberg, Ola Brand Manager, “Fashion has a similar appeal. It offers a chance to satisfy yourself with beautiful and luxurious things that make you feel glamorous. That is why this partnership felt so right for us.”
Five bespoke dresses were designed by Gert-Johan Coetzee, inspired by Magnum’s Classic, Mint, Almond, White Almond and Death by Chocolate ice creams.
“I really loved working with Magnum on this collection,” said Gert-Johan Coetzee, “I was inspired by the colours, textures and of course the decadent taste of Magnum’s classic flavours and I think the dresses have truly brought them to life.”
