Now and again one should take some time to spoil oneself. It can be as simple as having a manicure and pedicure or lavish like treating yourself to a spa day at the Saxon Hotel. Then, there is an event like the Le Kap Lifestyle Fair, which will take place at the luxurious Lourensford Wine Estate, in Somerset West, Cape Town on the 8th & 9th of November 2013.
Gourmet food and fine wine meets fashion and show jumping with the inaugural public event taking place on Saturday the 9th of November 2013 in the relaxed country chic setting of Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West. The innovative new fair kicks off with a VIP Gala Dinner on Friday evening, 8th of November, also available to the public, featuring Bertus Basson, PJ Vadas and some of South Africa’s most sought after wines.
Now, the only other event that I can compare what is being described here, was about 3 years ago, when I was invited to my very first Live Out Loud event. This took place in a plane hangar at Lanseria Airport, and I got my first taste of how the “other side” lives when I got to see the inside of a private plane for the first time. Besides the ambrosial food, fashion show and Bentleys on show, the fact that each guest was greeted with a drink that contained a cubic zirconia and one, yes one real diamond, was literally the cherry on the top, just a pity that that one real diamond was not in my glass!
But back to the Le Kap event… on Saturday, the 9th of November, the Le Kap Lifestyle Fair, will showcase a curated selection of gourmet foods paired with fine wines, an exclusive Moët & Chandon Champagne Bar, Glenmorangie Whisky Lounge, luxuriously inspired couture, dressage with music (musical kur), and an exclusive fashion show featuring South Africa’s top designers and show jumping. Bentley will also be showcasing the brand new Flying Spur, available for viewing on the adjacent polo fields at Laurent Hall at Lourensford Estate.
With so many food related reality shows on TV at the moment, you’d swear that “gourmet chic is the new black.” The celebrity chef has taken over from super models (does anybody even use that term anymore?) Just think of the obvious ones like Jamie Oliver, Nigella Lawson and our very own Master Chef SA winner for 2013, Kamini Pather. Who would you rather have over to dinner, one of these chefs or a model?
So, I was rather delighted to hear that the Le Kap Lifestyle Fair will also showcase a number of gourmet food markets and food trucks – amongst others Bertus Basson’s Die Wors Rol, Durban Curry, The Grubbery and Stir Food. These innovative food vendors have reinvented the way that South Africans experience fresh, local ingredients, offering gourmet style street food paired with fine wines, beers, whiskies and even champagne at the Le Kap Fair.
If you are in Cape Town on the 8th and 9th of November, then be sure to take a detour to Lourensford Wine Estate, for some glitz and glamour, good food, drinks and entertainment.
