Every now and again, one finds little ambrosial gems right in your own back yard, or as I discovered today, less than a kilometre away from home, in Boskruin Office Park. Yes, Urban Angel Cafe is situated in an office park in Boskruin, Johannesburg but don’t let that deter you. Reasonable prices and fresh food are always a hit in my book, and both can be found at Urban Angel Cafe.

Montecasino Christmas Village
I spent my first white Christmas in Germany back in 1995, and it was truly magical. My first snow experience was at midnight in the grounds of a castle in Detmold, Germany. I also loved the Christmas markets in the town square and the smell of all those yuletide goodies to eat and drink.
Win A Double Ticket To A Mystery Picnic
Sometimes it’s difficult to find a lovely picnic spot, if one lives in Johannesburg. So when I heard about the newly launched Mystery Picnics, I was keen to find out more.
Mystery Picnics, hosted in Johannesburg, should be an entertaining night out, and its theme is “A Vintage Affair.” I’m already creating a mental look book/mood board for what I can wear, and I guess I will be taking out my 1920’s paraphernalia from previous Madame Zingara events and themed birthday parties.
Redneck Pizza Review – Col’Cacchio Celebrity Chef Series 2014
I was recently invited to review “The Redneck Pizza” at the Col’Cacchio in Nicolway, which forms part of this year’s Celebrity Chef Series. Now, I have to admit that I am a huge Col’Cacchio fan, and have been since I was introduced to the brand back in 1999 / 2000, when I lived in Cape Town. The fact that they use fresh ingredients for their pizzas and not the “melted cheese” variety is what makes this brand stand out from the rest of the pizza crowd. Talking about standing out, the atmosphere at most, if not all Col’Cacchio branches that I’ve been to, is one of good service with a smile and that personal touch. This was the case when my husband and I were welcomed to the Nicolway branch of Col’Cacchio by Manager Victor Rottcher, whom we spoke to at length about the service industry in South Africa as well as restaurant and hotel experiences – the good, the bad and the ugly.
Happy that I discovered happy.me bubble tea
Recently, a new bubble tea place opened down the road from where I live. I had never tried bubble tea before, but the first thing that attracted me to it, was the yellow logo and then the name, happy.me – I just love it, so bright, positive and welcoming.
But the best was yet to come – after surveying the very extensive menu of bubble teas, coffees (both hot and cold), yoghurts, smoothies and snow ice called Snoh, I decided to try the Rooibos Peach tea with yoghurt popping pearls. What ambrosial delight!
