Bonang Matheba Makes the Forbes List

It was recently announced that media personality and businesswoman, Bonang Matheba, was the only South African female to make the prestigious Forbes Magazine‘s 13 most influential artists in Africa list. The other two South Africans to make the list were Trevor Noah and DJ Sbu (Sibusiso Leope).

This took me back to a few months ago, when Bonang appeared as our celebrity guest on Spirit Sundae (SABC1).

Nobody Puts Baby In A Corner

I finally went to see the Dirty Dancing stage play the other night at the Teatro at Montecasino, Johannesburg. Many of the good seats were sold out for a while so sitting 6 rows from the stage was a real coup and a perfect location.

I first saw the original movie back in 1987 when I was in Standard 6 (Grade 8) at the Cine 400 bioscope (as we used to call the cinema) in Rylands, Cape Town, and it was recently on the DSTV movie loop, which refreshed my memories once again.

Watching it on stage was totally magnificent! The singing, dancing and costumes were superb, but the American accent of Johnny Castle, played by Gareth Bailey, swayed like the stunning 60’s dresses worn by the female cast. Kudos to the lead actress, Bryony Whitfield. It felt like she was channeling Jennifer Grey in her performance as Frances “Baby” Houseman.

Puma tin doubles as a coin purse

I received this nifty Puma tin filled with mints (which were eaten in a day, as I am addicted to the taste of all types of mint) in a goodie bag at a Puma event a while back.

Once the sweets were consumed, I decided to utilize the tin in a very practical way – use it as a purse to keep all my coins. This works much better than the usual traditional zip purses, and you can easily see what coins you have at a glance, which comes in handy when paying for parking. I find that the Fisherman’s Friend tins work just as well.

Woolworths Stationery is Tops (and Knock Knock Comes a Close Second)

Now that the festive season has come to an end, the BACK TO SCHOOL buying madness has started. I’ve noticed that Woolworths now has a wonderful range of stationery. I first saw this in the V & A Waterfront (Cape Town) branch a while back, and the range is now available at the Sandton City (Johannesburg) branch.

Below are some photos of their stationery. I particularly like the velvet wrapped pencils.

Keep Calm and Carry On

It seems like the “Keep Calm and Carry On” theme is now on everything. Personally, I love the clean design and the fact that you can create your own “Keep Calm” artwork and slogans.

For the history of the design, check out the Keep Calm and Carry On official website, where you can also create your own posters.

I found this Keep Calm and Carry On mug at my local Mr Price Home Store at World Wear, Johannesburg for only R15.99. A real bargain if you ask me!
