Decorex Cape Town

As the first city in Africa to be named a UNESCO City of Design, Cape Town’s creative spirit is being internationally acknowledged for its uniquely African essence that boasts a global appeal. This year’s Decorex Cape Town, fittingly themed ‘Designing for Africa – feels like home’, will showcase the wealth of this city’s design talent at this unmissable exhibition.

“Cape Town is synonymous with high-end design, yet there is no one style that signifies this city,” said Sian Cullingworth, Portfolio Director at Reed Exhibitions. “It’s a beautiful fusion of diverse cultures and influences that represent this continent, ever-changing to reflect the incoming trends. Visitors to Decorex Cape Town will get to witness the expression of the city’s most dynamic designers as they craft some inspired installations for the show.”

Decorex Designer Spotlight with Danela Conti

This year’s African-inspired theme speaks directly to the ethos of 2019 Decorex Designer Spotlight, Danela Conti. In her 21st year of design, Danela will be including her love of the continent into the revisioning of interiors, and her Decorex installation will be a culmination of her international design experience with the trending African aesthetic.

Fabric Trend Bar

Featuring at the first-ever Fabric Trend Bar – a display of the most on-trend local fabrics – will be Skinny Laminx, Shine Shine, Lula Fabrics and Fabricnation.

Lula Fabrics has been designing and producing bold statement décor fabrics since 2007. Known for its Tribal Suzani designs, tropical leaves and quirky African designs, Lula Fabrics will show visitors how to add personality to every interior.

Supporting ‘homegrown’ where possible, Fabricnation will be showcasing fabrics and base cloths printed in Cape Town on 100% cotton fabrics with water-based pigment inks. Jane Solomon of Fabricnation explained: “We are inspired by the African textile tradition, rendered in a modern urban context with its blending of diverse sources and influences to create the Fabric of a Nation. For Decorex Cape Town, we’re highlighting our ‘After the Fire’ design (inspired after a mountain fire) as both a textile prints and a wallpaper – in collaboration with Robin Sprong.”

Joining them will be Shine Shine, ready to present a bright, bold, African-inspired and Cape Town-based brand of fabrics. Founded by Tracy Rushmere and developed with graphic designer, Heidi Chisholm, the fabrics are designed for those who like to wear their fun or decorate with expression.
