I recently discovered a quaint little cafe in Craighall Park, Johannesburg, called Dolci Cafe, that is perfect for an intimate breakfast or lunch, kitchen tea or baby shower.
Headed by husband and wife team Clayton Boyd and Jackie Righi-Boyd, Dolci is an Italian café, pastry shop and baking boutique dedicated to authentic foods, the highest available quality products and a mouthwatering selection of artisan cakes and cupcakes.
Jackie, who hails from SA food pedigree (her mother was the owner of Jo’burg landmarks Tre Nonni and Assaggi), trained in Italy as a pastry chef and started out creating cupcakes at home before moving into expanding her repertoire to a range of decadent pastries and desserts.
Dolci’s extensive lunchtime menu includes Spaghetti Con Zucchini, Tagliata Di Manzo (sliced fillet steak featuring a robust tomato flavour) and their Cotoletta (chicken schnitzel served with boiled baby potatoes in butter and parsley, sliced tomato and homemade cheese sauce).
In keeping with their commitment to true Italian authenticity, wherever possible, everything is made on site. “This is Italian food, served the Italian way” says Clayton.
“Best possible products, and simply presented – that is our premise” adds Jackie. “After all, a good tomato is a good tomato. There is no need to lather it up with balsamic vinegar. I believe in leaving a product to speak for itself.”
Dolci Café is located at 101 Lancaster Avenue (corner Clarence Avenue) in Craighall Park, Johannesburg.
The restaurant is open Tuesday to Friday from 7.30am until 6pm, and on weekends from 7:30am until 3pm.
Closed on Mondays.
