Jamie’s Italian Review

I bought my first Jamie Oliver cookbook in about 2000 (The Return of the Naked Chef) and I’ve been a fan of his cooking and shows since then.

Jamie’s Italian restaurant recently opened in Melrose Arch in Johannesburg, and I visited the establishment, at my own cost.

The restaurant reminded me of an up-market version of Col’Cacchio restaurant (another favourite of mine). We were welcomed by the manager and lead to our table – it was 12h00 noon and the restaurant had just opened for the day, so it was fairly empty, and I was able to get a good sense of the space and décor.

The Search is on for the E! Host South Africa

I am a huge fan of E! Entertainment Television, so I was ecstatic to hear that they are about to launch a local presenter search.

The six-part competition series, set to launch in 2017, will follow eight local contestants as they compete for the honour of being named the first-ever host for E! in South Africa.

The locally produced series called “The Search: E! Host South Africa” is expected to launch on DStv channel 124 in February 2017, and will follow eight aspiring presenters as they compete to become the first-ever host for the channel in South Africa, and next member of the E! family.

E! Entertainment Television continues to invest into original programming and with The Search: E! Host South Africa about to begin production, we are delighted to be showcasing local talent” says Colin McLeod, Managing Director, UK and Emerging Markets, NBC Universal International Networks. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance for up-and-coming talent from across the country to pursue this unique opportunity to become a pop culture ambassador on E! in Africa.”

This new reality competition will follow the contestants as they live together in a luxurious mansion, showcasing their talent in a series of weekly challenges. Each week, one of the contestants will be eliminated by a panel of judges until only the most accomplished and tenacious contender – whose finger is firmly on the pulse of pop culture – is declared the winner. The winner will see their star-studded dreams come true, as they become the first-ever E! Host South Africa, covering future events on behalf of the channel.

Nice work if you can get it, methinks.

I’m a fan of cruise liners – I won a Mediterranean cruise in 1997 and also done the Durban – Portuguese Islands in Mozambique – Durban route, about 5 years ago. Cruising is an all-in-one combo – you get the food, drinks, accommodation, entertainment and fun in the sun and sand! And with Oh Ship! the cherry on top is that you get 72 hours of some of South Africa’s top DJs and comedians, to keep you entertained, while you sip on our sangria.
