I recently had the opportunity to attend the launch of the Reviv Wellness Spa in Johannesburg. This is a spa with a twist…at first I thought is was the usual run of the mill type of spa, with manicures and pedicures, but it is actually what is also known as a “Drip Bar” because you get your boosters via IV infusions or injections, if preferred.
I have no fear of needles, but this was not the case for some of the media and bloggers who attended, but don’t worry, as a tiny prick is all that is standing in the way of feeling revived and rejuvenated.
The evening started off with the CEO of Reviv Wellness Spa for South Africa, Mr Sayed Mia, explaining the concept, how and where it started, what it is all about and what it is meant to do.
In a nutshell, instead if taking vitamin tablets, one can now go to Reviv Wellness Spa (situated in Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton) and the boost is given directly into your blood stream using an IV (intravenous) infusion, aka a drip.
You choose what boost you’d like, from a selection of about 8, and a doctor administers it. The set up is all medical, and qualified doctors were there to answer our questions. Since this treatment was medical in nature, those who chose to have the IV infusion, were asked to fill in an extensive medical form, and I was given a medical exam before the IV was administered, which made me feel more assured that everything was above board.
This branch of Reviv Wellness Spa, is the 5th flagship one to open worldwide since 2010, with other flagship branches in Miami, Las Vegas, Cheshire and London. By the end of this year, there will be more branches opening in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Canada and Australia, said Mr Mia. Apparently, more than 100 IV infusions per day, are done in Las Vegas alone. Being “Sin City” this is understandable! There are plans to open flagship stores in Cape Town and Durban as well in the future.
After completing my medical forms, and my questions were answered by Dr Musajee, I was taken in to a private room, given a medical exam (blood pressure, temperature taken, oxygen levels, etc.) the IV was inserted into my arm, the drip containing the Mega Boost infusion was put onto a stand and I sat on the couch for about 30 minutes whilst the drip was infused. I felt slightly cold after a while, but the nurse told me that that was because the infusions are kept very cold, so feeling cold was normal. I also experienced a tingly pins and needles feeling in my fingertips, but this went away shortly after the IV was taken out of my arm.
The Mega Boost (which is their signature infusion) contains anti-oxidants, vitamins, amino acids, nutrients, minerals, etc. and replaces what the body is lacking, and since it is water soluble, what you don’t need you pee out, and this I am finding to be the truth, as I have urinated quite frequently this past week!
Benefits include:
- Restores Hydration
• Replenishes Essential Minerals & Vitamins
• Boosts Immune System
• Delivers An Energy Boost
• Detoxifies The Body
• Cleanses Vitals Organs
The other benefits of the infusions can be found on http://revivme.com/
The results:
I did not feel the boost immediately, I must be honest, but that is just how my body reacted to the infusion, someone else may have felt like climbing Mount Everest.
I am anaemic and have been working on shoots with really early call times, for the past month, so getting an energy boost is just what the doctor ordered, pun intended!
After one and a half weeks, I feel like I have mini boosts of energy. I am not jumping up and down like a kid on a sugar high, but I do feel less tired and can work some more after dinner, to about midnight, despite the early filming call times, and then a full day at the office, without feeling exhausted.
So would I recommend it?
Yes, if you want to feel less tired, especially if you know that you will be entering a particularly stressful or exhausting period. Of course, the placebo effect is really strong, so if you believe this will help you and give your energy, then it will. And apparently these IV infusions are a favourite of Simon Cowell, and we know how hectic his schedule is …
An added benefit is that they also offer a concierge service, so they will come to your home as well, for an additional fee.
