The Hundred-Foot Journey – Film Review

I love movies where food is the protagonist – think of Chocolat, Like Water for Chocolate, Babette’s Feast, Julie and Julia, Love’s Kitchen and the new film called Chef. But this post is about a film directed by Swede Lasse Hallström and produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey, called The Hundred-Foot Journey.  I was invited to the premiere recently, and when I watched the trailer, I knew I was going to love it. Set in the south of France, with flavours of Bollywood, the clash in cultures results in a melting pot of emotions, and of course, love.

One cannot exactly place the time period it is set in – the costume design and art direction suggest the 1950’s, but then a cell phone is used in some scenes, but I reckon that this a Lasse Hallström trademark. I’d hate to give too much of the plot away, but needless to say, if you love romance with a hint of comedy and tragedy, and a good dose of culinary delights, then you must see this film, which is currently on circuit.

I was able to obtain this green bean and potato curry recipe from the movie, via the kind folks at Zomato, so try it out and put your love into it.
