Holiday fun with Ben 10 and Mister Maker at DStv Kids’ Xtravaganza

The June/July school holidays are here and if you are looking for something fun to do with your kids, then check out the DStv Kids’ Xtravaganza. This brings your children’s favourite television characters to life at Vodacom World in Midrand from 28 June to 6 July 2014.

Young children and tweens will be treated to regular 30-minute live shows featuring Mister Maker and Ben 10, from their favourite DStv kids’ shows.

Ben 10, the popular character from Ben 10 Omniverse on Cartoon Network (DStv channel 301), will be appearing in the multimedia stage show Top Secret Plumbers’ Academy from 28 June to 1 July.

Something to Khoo about

I discovered the lovely Rachel Khoo on BBC Lifestyle about a year ago. I watched her show called “The Little Paris Kitchen” and the one currently on air in South Africa, “Rachel Khoo Kitchen Notebook: London.” The concept of the former show is cooking classic, yet easy, French recipes no matter what the size of your kitchen, and true to its namesake, Rachel’s kitchen was minute, but what delightful looking dishes were created in that little mini oven and two plate stove!

In the current series, Rachel is back in her hometown of London, and takes us to her favourite places in and around the British capital, in between cooking up a delicious storm in her tiny flat.

Nobody Puts Baby In A Corner

I finally went to see the Dirty Dancing stage play the other night at the Teatro at Montecasino, Johannesburg. Many of the good seats were sold out for a while so sitting 6 rows from the stage was a real coup and a perfect location.

I first saw the original movie back in 1987 when I was in Standard 6 (Grade 8) at the Cine 400 bioscope (as we used to call the cinema) in Rylands, Cape Town, and it was recently on the DSTV movie loop, which refreshed my memories once again.

Watching it on stage was totally magnificent! The singing, dancing and costumes were superb, but the American accent of Johnny Castle, played by Gareth Bailey, swayed like the stunning 60’s dresses worn by the female cast. Kudos to the lead actress, Bryony Whitfield. It felt like she was channeling Jennifer Grey in her performance as Frances “Baby” Houseman.
